Bloggers say your title should be framed and should contain words that are frequently searched. Thinking about that, this topic doesn’t fit that category. It would be a funny question to ask Google how you look, don’t you think?
Recently, I have been writing on less “heavy” topics. Topics I like to call “Domestic“. Don’t ask why, I can’t explain. However, I believe you’ve been blessed.
Today’s topic is about dressing. How do I look?
Ooohhh, c’mon Rowland! what does dressing have to do with our spiritual life?
There’s no such thing as “spiritual life”. It is your life. Click here To know more about this.
More seriously though, your life is not affected by your dressing, so to speak, your dressing is affected by your life. This brings me to the aim of this post.
The aim of this post is to help you understand that the matter of the heart is still central to the quality of issues of life that flow. Hence, how you dress is a major way to check and to examine your heart thoroughly.
I believe so much that God intends for some things in our daily lives to serve as caution signs that tell that something is possibly wrong with our heart and dressing is one of them.
In your defence you’d say “It’s the heart that matters, God looks at the heart.”
I think you are totally correct. In fact God agrees with you. Which is why you should check your heart when you begin to dress in very funny ways.
Did that make sense to you?
Let me say it in a different way.
Under appropriate circumstances, when a man dresses like a woman, there’s a big question mark in your heart and the question is “Is something wrong with him?” (or a lady dressing like a man). The idea is there’s an expectation based on gender. In the same manner, there’s an expectation based on your new life and a mind that is being renewed.
1 Timothy 2:9-10 (GNB)
“I also want the women to be modest and sensible about their clothes and to dress properly; not with fancy hair styles or with gold ornaments or pearls or expensive dresses, but with good deeds, as is proper for women who claim to be religious.”
I tell you the truth and I lie not. I tell you a truth many have refused to accept. That truth is that many believers are still soaked in the system of the world and don’t want to leave.
Listen to this. The average believer is willing to part with fornication (the things that make them look evil) but is not ready to part with the trend of dressing in the world.
Ooohhhh!!! How much of a blessing the Lord has made dressing to be. It serves as a check for us. It serves as a traffic light, pointing to your retreat room.
When you are comfortable with a little skin here, a little skin there, it is time to check what your heart has been feeding on.
It’s funny how when the presence of God came into the garden, Adam knew he was still naked despite the leaves he used to cover himself and he hid.
My message today is simple.
God knows fashion!!!
God is interested in your dressing, not just your prophesying.
God wants you to check your heart when you begin to desire certain kinds of dressing.
My friend, God can inspire your fashion taste if you let Him. I remember once through the Holy Spirit, I was rebuked about what I wore for a program. Nothing was wrong with it but God didn’t think it was appropriate and by the time I checked myself, I realized my choice was not influenced by the Spirit of excellence, modesty and simplicity.
The three evils found in the world are what informs the dressing of most believers… Lust of the flesh, lust of the eyes and pride of life.
Listen, if you want to keep up with the trend of the world, you will never be able to prove what is the good and acceptable and perfect will of God. (Romans 12:2).
I’m not here to tell you the length your skirt should be or the height your trousers should be pulled up to.
I am telling you that God is using your current style of dressing to point to you an unrenewed part of your mind. He is pointing to you a part of you that you have submitted to be ruled by the world system.
Are you scared of being called old fashioned?
Are you scared you’d stop being pretty?
Oh then you don’t understand 1 Timothy 2:9. Read it and you’ll see that modest and immodest dressing is really not in the excessiveness or otherwise of adornment but the state of the heart.
Listen to me, I know I may offend many with this post… Well, I am glad I can offend you into complete righteousness. You see, you have separated your dressing from the state of your heart for too long meanwhile what you ought to do is prioritize the state of your heart over your dressing.
Are you what you dress like? Maybe not, but why give us the idea in the first place!?
Listen my friend, judge yourself by the words of God as written in 1 Timothy 2:9. Take some time to check what you feed yourself with that affects your dressing and then make the necessary repentance.
For indeed, the path that leads to God is narrow. It doesn’t allow for luggage except the feather weight burden and easy burden of Jesus.
Thank you for joining me today. I very much desire that we all choose to follow Jesus with all that we are and not care about the beauty of the world which, as we have seen overtime, always and will pass away.
God bless you.
Have a great weekend.
