Don’t ever fall for the lie that believers never face difficulty. Anyway, the difficult situation is not the complete “good news” here. The good news is that it’s okay to give up.
Someone is already wondering why I’m encouraging people to give up.
Thank you for coming up here to read from me, may your reading bring profit to your soul and spirit. Amen.
Do you know all the fathers of faith gave up? Abraham, Isaac, Jacob, David, etc. Jesus also gave up (No, it’s not heresy)… If Jesus gave up, how much more Peter and Apostle Paul?
Listen, God designs and permits the kinds of trials and tribulations that are to come our way and guess what, He wants them to make us give up.
I know you still don’t get the message, let’s look into the scriptures.
2 Corinthians 1:8 (KJV)
“For we would not, brethren, have you ignorant of our trouble which came to us in Asia, that we were pressed out of measure, above strength, insomuch that we despaired even of life:”
Brethren!!! How can a whole Apostle, an Apostle of Faith, give up even to the point of giving up on life!!?? The firebrand brethren in my generation would have shouted at Apostle Paul, telling him he has no faith. What manner of suffering should make you give up, Apostle!!!??
Why would God allow him go through so much that “a whole Apostle”, as we say in Nigeria, would give up on life? Brethren listen, I wrote in one of my posts that whatever situation God puts us through, sickness, lack, suffering of different forms, disappointment, etc, it is to strengthen our faith… this is very true! But we see Apostle Paul here giving up even on life.

There’s something in the next verse of our Bible text that helps us understand why it was good for Apostle Paul to go through what he went through and the advantage of his giving up. Let’s see it.
2 Corinthians 1:9 (KJV)
“But we had the sentence of death in ourselves, that we should not trust in ourselves, but in God which raiseth the dead:”
Did you see that? It’s the will of God that we give up on our own strength, on our own wisdom, on our own might, on our own connections, etc, and so out of love, He will put you through every single thing that will frustrate your confidence in self and put your trust and hope in Him. That was why Paul gave up. He saw it was all beyond him and he just put all his strength aside and laid on the promise of being raised from the dead… He gave up on even his will to live.
Sadly, many of us still struggle and struggle and struggle to make sure it all works out pleasantly. We are so engrossed with what we desire (even spiritually) that we forget the faith God commanded. The faith of God lays everything else down and holds a fast grip on the word of God.
We fall into the temptation of thinking faith is to stubbornly hold on to our personal desires. That’s not faith. Faith is to lay down your life and lean totally on every word that proceeds out of the mouth of God with none of your strength trying to bring it to pass. This is what God wants and even if it means bringing you to the brink of death, listen, I pray that He will bring you to that point. Amen. Because, listen, the just shall live by faith. The just will acquire eternal life by faith.
So Adelphoi, it is good to give up. Give up on everything else, especially your own strength and might. Give up on your own life like Isaac did when Abraham placed him on the altar. Give up on that particular thing troubling you and don’t try to be dubious about it because you can’t deceive God. Just rest in the word of God which has His promises and will bring itself to life.
Glory to God for the situation you’re going through. Only stop struggling and just gaze on the word of God instead of esteeming your desires, your power, your strength and your might, then you’ll see what hope in God and His word produces… I didn’t say it’ll produce your desires for you, No! It’ll only produce God’s desire… Kai!!! There are so many things I want to say but I’m sure you get today’s message already.
Thank you for reading from me today. I hope you were blessed. Don’t forget to come her next week to read something that will bless you. Shalom.
