Curse God and Die

Familiar with that yeah?

Good evening precious readers. God bless you today and always.

Today, by the grace of God, I want you to be changed by what I’m about to share. To be broken down with godly repentance.

If you are asked randomly if you can curse or deny God, I bet a strong “No” will burst out of you. Usually there’s a grin that accompanies that. An irritated look… Like “How dare you even ask me such a question!”

You know, we are confident that we can stand the threat of Nebuchadnezzar and even stand until we are tossed into the fiery furnace.

Sadly, this confidence is not true and we don’t know it. We curse and deny God everyday but “with our mouth, we draw near and honour Him with our lips”.

Job 2:9 (KJV)
Then said his wife unto him, Dost thou still retain thine integrity? curse God, and die.”

Let me just make a point by the way… A man’s wife… (I actually typed “a person’s wife” but then I remembered the age I live in so I decided to make what is right clear)... Knows the man inside and out. She knows his flaws and strengths. Pay attention to the testimony of Job’s wife. She testified that he had integrity. His integrity was not a thing for show, it was true… Let’s go back to our topic.

You must understand that Job’s wife wasn’t telling Job to just curse God and just die for dying sake. She was a “thoughtful” woman. She was probably weeping and sobbing when she said it. I don’t believe she said it from the heart of a “wicked” wife who was never submissive to her husband and was always looking for a way to make trouble in the house. No! She cared about Job’s life and condition.

Listen, her advice was out of the heart of a loving wife. She understood, either by observation or learning that anyone who cursed God died (Leviticus 24:14-16), so she decided to advise her husband to bring an end to his suffering.

Kai!! Job suffered. Job suffered so much, he didn’t only wish for death he wished he never existed. Let me give you another version of that bible text that expounds on Mrs Job’s statement.

Job 2:9 (Brenton Septuagint Translation)
And when much time had passed, his wife said to him, How long wilt thou hold out, saying, Behold, I wait yet a little while, expecting the hope of my deliverance? for, behold, thy memorial is abolished from the earth, even thy sons and daughters, the pangs and pains of my womb which I bore in vain with sorrows; and thou thyself sittest down to spend the nights in the open air among the corruption of worms, and I am a wanderer and a servant from place to place and house to house, waiting for the setting of the sun, that I may rest from my labours and my pangs which now beset me: but say some word against the Lord, and die.”

So, “Curse God and die” was not an advice to be outright rebellious. It was an escape from suffering… This is where my message to you is.

Brethren listen, this is scripture, anyone who does everything within their might to escape suffering will curse God eventually. God will not wait for the time there will be a gun to your head, He judges in little things.

The average Christian lives like God sent His son to die so they don’t suffer… Not even a scratch. Listen, God came to buy you over and there are caves He has destined faith and virtue to be formed in, it is in the furnace of affliction. If you are the christian that does all they can to avoid suffering, your life will deny God… You will not walk according to His word and the Bible says you can’t claim to have fellowship with Him.

Listen friend, it is as little as not being able to endure a long waiting line without complaining and looking for every means possible to jump it maybe by trying to make eye contact with the attendant whom you know personally. If you fail in this, you cannot have faith to refuse paying to redeploy from your original posting for the National Youth Service Corps. Let alone have the faith to wait in the place God says to wait no matter the economic, social and political instability.

Listen, instead of denying the sovereignty of God and His word, instead of refusing to obey God’s word to relief yourself of pain and suffering, choose death by that suffering.

And I pray in the name of Jesus Christ, to the God who answers prayers that for His glory and our blessing, He will make you and I people like Jesus who endured shame and suffering and carried the cross even unto death. Amen.
