It’s the sly nature! You don’t see it coming. It’s how it hides under sincerity and common sense. It’s how it rides on the back of nobility and responsibility.
Do not be deceived. Mammon is sly! Mammon can be worshipped so diligently under the cloak of so many good, noble and even “godly exercises”.
Today’s message is on the worship of Mammon, it’s subtlety and it’s entry point.
Thank you for coming to read from me today. I have a short list of articles on worship and I think it’ll be a good think to just read them although they don’t have a direct link to today’s message.
First, Graven Images and the 21st Century, then The maker of Idols and Idols; The Copycat . I may have others but these ones are the ones I can remember right now.
Like I’ve said before in some of my posts, Mammon is not necessarily having so much money or even pursuing to have so much money.
People hardly start out pursuing abundance.

So people are so focused on not serving Mammon by not pursuing so much yet they wake up every morning just to worship that same Mammon because they refuse to obey the very simple instruction of Jesus.
Matthew 6:24 (KJV)
“No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one, and love the other; or else he will hold to the one, and despise the other. Ye cannot serve God and mammon.”
Jesus teaching here makes it inescapably clear that no one can do the will of God and serve Mammon at the same time.
“Easy“, you say, “I never even want to serve any other God except our Father in heaven.” Well to be true, it’s not as easily detected as you think but Jesus has helped us.
You think it’s easy because you think Mammon worship is for those who pursue to have so much money to live big and you’re not like that. You think those who greedily try to lay hold on every opportunity they have to make more and more money and store it up are the ones that scripture talks about. You think this is for those who are greedy for more money, happiness and comfort.
Well that’s not true. Many financially impoverished people worship Mammon. They are not guilty of this because they are trying to be rich and have so much money or property, comfort and happiness, it’s because… now this may sound mean and ridiculous but it’s the truth… They wake up everyday working hard and doing all they can (even legally) to survive.
I Kid you not!!! That really is trying to serve both God and Mammon.
Matthew 6:25 (KJV)
“Therefore I say unto you, Take no thought for your life, what ye shall eat, or what ye shall drink; nor yet for your body, what ye shall put on. Is not the life more than meat, and the body than raiment?”
It starts with “therefore”. This means the preceding verse is what this verse is talking further about. The preceding verse is the first one I quoted which says we cannot serve God and Mammon, therefore, do not think about life. In summary, the basic things of life.
Can you see that you don’t push yourself to the worship of Mammon by pursuing luxury but by pursuing the basic necessities of life.
I know, it’s really crazy.
Matthew 6:19-34 is worth your read. Many a person has fallen prey of the sly of Mammon making them believe seeking to provide for themselves the basic things of life is only common sense and responsibility. It’s even possible you’re finding this hard to believe because you’ve been a victim of the devil’s lies.
Listen adelphoi, the Lord through His word is saying to us that the moment God and His purposes and righteousness do not inspire or are not the inspiration for your pursuit, no matter how noble the pursuit is, you’re not serving God.
… and most times, it’s Mammon.
Maybe next week I’ll write to you about how the just shall live. Thank you for coming to read today. Come again next week.
God bless you
